About Bruce Brient
Dr. Bruce Brient is a board-certified general surgeon and is one of four surgeons who perform weight loss procedures for patients of the Obesity Center for Surgery & Treatment at North Florida Regional Healthcare.
Dr. Bruce Brient has performed hundreds of weight loss surgeries, including adjustable gastric banding, gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding over previous gastric bypass, as well as the vertical sleeve procedure.
Now a surgeon with Surgical Group of Gainesville and on the medical staff of North Florida Regional Medical Center, Dr. Brient served previously as the General Surgery Section Chief of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Gainesville and as an Associate Professor of Surgery at Shands Teaching Hospital at the University of Florida.
Dr. Brient completed his undergraduate education at the University of Kansas in 1961. He completed his medical education at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1965. Dr. Brient completed a surgical internship at Duke University, where he was a junior assistant resident, and he followed that with fellowship training at Duke University in cancer research with Dr. D. B. Amos and Dr. William Shingleton in 1969. Dr. Brient was a National Institutes of Health Academic Trainee in Surgery with Dr. Alfred Nisonoff at the University of Illinois. His surgery internship at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago was completed in 1973.
